Sullivan County Legislature Chairman Robert Doherty

MONTICELLO – The chairman of the Sullivan County Legislature is questioning the practices of the county’s Industrial Development Agency.

Robert Doherty does not agree with some of the past financial incentives the agency has approved.

“The casino was done on a request for proposals, they answered an RFP. They were willing to come here. Why are you handing them $7 million in tax benefits? They said in their RFP they were going to have a waterpark. Why did we hand the waterpark $3.5 million? Why did we give Millennium $1 million for 10 office jobs in Rockland County? How did that help Sullivan County?” he questioned.

Doherty also said too many benefits were given upfront and the IDA does not claw back enough benefits for those projects that do not live up to their deals.
