WEST POINT – Reception Day, or R-Day, the first day new West Point cadet candidates report to the US Military Academy and get a crash course on the Army way of life, is now spread out over three days thanks to the need for social distancing as result of the coronavirus pandemic.
Recruits began arriving on Sunday and will continue today, the third day of the annual ritual, which includes lessons on protocols, marching, receiving their first Army attire and the obligatory haircuts.
The Class of 2024 is comprised of 286 women, 493 minorities, 18 combat veterans, and 13 international students.
