NEWBURGH – State Assemblyman Jonathan Jacobson (D, Newburgh) is calling out the State Office of Court Administration over a COVID-19 positive test of a court employee in Newburgh City Court.

Jacobson said he was shocked to learn that after a court employee tested positive, the state did not require all other employees in the court to be tested. Some tested voluntarily, the lawmaker said.

“It is a dereliction of duty on behalf of the Office of Court Administration not to require the testing. That is the purpose of tracing; you find out who might have been exposed and then you test them,” he said.

Jacobson also criticized the court system for not placing plexiglass partitions around the judges, witnesses and jurors.

“My concerns are not just with the Newburgh City Court, but with the safety of those who work in and use all of the courts in New York State,” Jacobson said.
