NEW YORK – The state will issue formalized guidance on July 13 as to how schools could reopen this fall. The decision to reopen will be made about three weeks later.

Districts will have until the end of the month to submit their plans for reopening.

Between August 1 and 7 decisions will be made on whether or not they may re-open.

Governor Cuomo said plans will likely be similar within each region in the state.

He said he will not approve school openings if the data shows students would be at risk.

The governor also criticized President Trump’s threat that if would cut off federal funding to schools that do not open. Cuomo called the threat “a tactic” that doesn’t work because the president does not have that authority under the constitution.
