Truck driver killed in I-84 crash in Montgomery

MONTGOMERY – A tire blowout on a 2020 Mack truck resulted in the driver being killed on Wednesday when the vehicle ran off Interstate 84 eastbound near exit 28 (old exit 5) in the Town of Montgomery.

State Police said at just after 3 p.m. the vehicle, driven by David Harp, 72, of Slate Hill, traveled into a grassy shoulder and went 1,000 feet into a wooded area where it struck several trees before coming to rest and bursting into flames.

Maybrook and Montgomery fire departments arrived at the incident and extinguished the fire.

Harp was pronounced dead at the scene.

State Police ask anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call them at 845-344-5300. The accident remains under investigation.
