Hazmat responds to leaking bank safe deposit box

Sterling Bank branch in the Town of Wallkill

TOWN OF WALLKILL – Silver Lake firefighters and an Orange County Hazmat team were called on Wednesday afternoon to the Sterling National Bank branch on Industrial Drive in the Town of Wallkill for a report of an unknown substance leaking from a safe deposit box.

Authorities have not said what the outcome of the investigation has revealed.

At the same time as first responders were on that scene, there were two calls for Silver Lake firefighters to respond to vehicles into buildings.

Firefighters were also called to 400 North Galleria Drive for a report of a car into a building. It was the third time a vehicle crashed into the front windows of Pier One. There were no injuries reported.

A car struck a building at 670 Route 211 East in Wallkill. First responders reported no injuries.

Fire departments from other areas were called in to assist under mutual aid.
