Hate crime under investigation in Putnam County

TOWN OF SOUTHEAST – State Police from the Southeast barracks are investigating a hate crime that occurred at about 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 84 in Southeast.

The victim, a Hispanic woman, was sleeping in her vehicle on the westbound shoulder of the highway near exit 65 at Route 312 when she was approached by two white men yelling racial slurs at her.

The men were operating an older model two-tone black and silver Chevrolet pickup truck.

As the victim attempted to drive away, her vehicle was struck by the suspect truck. She was unable to get the license plate number.

The woman was not injured, and suspect vehicle fled westbound on I-84.

One suspect was described as being white, possibly in his mid-40s, with husky build, copper colored beard, blonde hair, thick brimmed dark color glasses, a green button-up shirt and baggy blue jeans.

The other man, who was also white, was possible in his mid-20s, with a skinny build, wearing a green tank top and he had a tattoo of the letters “Ang” on his left write.
