Police shoot and kill man who points gun at them

NEW ROCHELLE – A man who was pulled over for vehicle and traffic violations just before 11 p.m. on Friday, June 5, is dead after he pulled a gun on a New Rochelle Police officer and tried to fire.

The officer discharged his duty weapon at the man, striking him once. Officers rendered medical assistance to the man who was pronounced dead while being transported by ambulance to an area hospital.

The stop was conducted in the area of Potter Avenue and Pierce Street. After the vehicle stopped, a passenger got out and fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, one of the officers fired his taser, a struggle ensued and the man pulled a handgun, pointing it at the officer. That is when the officer pulled his gun and shot the subject.

The incident remains under investigation by New Rochelle Police, the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office and the State Office of the Attorney General.
