MONTGOMERY – People have been behaving badly at the Orange County Arboretum in the Town of Montgomery and officials have laid down the law on their Facebook page about it.

The gardens, 9/11 Memorial Sphere and paths provide for beauty and serenity, but there have been issues as we continue to face COVID-19.

Among the current problems facing the arboretum, according officials, are people not wearing face masks, not practicing social distancing, and people picking flowers.

Parents have been allowing children to climb on features including the 9/11 Memorial, they said. “Kids have been seen running along the plaques while parents watch. This will not be tolerated,” the post read. “The arboretum is not a playground.

People have also been seen walking through the gardens destroying the plants, the officials said.

The arboretum has changed its hours on Saturdays and Sundays. A security company will be limiting the number of people entering and the gate will be closed at 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays.
