Three rescued from smokey Spring Valley fire

SPRING VALLEY – First responders rescued three people from a smoke-filled multi-family residence in Spring Valley.

Village police responded to 15 Summit Avenue at 6:20 a.m. on Thursday, May 21, initially for a fire alarm, however, the call was upgraded to smoke in the building shortly after.

Responding officers as well as firefighters were met with heavy smoke on the fourth floor on the North Corridor of the complex.

Firefighters on the scene removed two bed-ridden occupants from the fourth floor. A third occupant was trapped in their apartment due to the fire and was rescued by firefighters with the use of an aerial ladder.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Rockland County Arson squad.

The case is currently being handled by the Spring Valley Police Department Detective Bureau.

Assisting in the operation were the Spring Valley Fire Department, Columbian Engine Co. #1Spring Valley NY FD “Hillhooks,” Monsey Fire Department, Hillcrest Fire Department, Spring Hill Community Ambulance CorpsRockland Paramedic Services, and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office BCI and arson investigators.
