HILLCREST – Fire engulfed an apparently abandoned house at North Pascack Road and Ewing Avenue in Hillcrest early this morning and when the blaze was extinguished a body was discovered inside.
The fire was called in around 1:06 a.m. Wednesday when firefighters from Spring Valley, Hillcrest and Nanuet departments responded to the scene.
Ramapo Police said the identity of the victim is unknown.
The Ramapo Police Investigations Division is investigating with assistance from the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office Fire Investigation Unit. The cause and origin of the blaze were not known.
Ramapo Police investigators are working with the Rockland County Medical Examiner’s Office in an attempt to identify the victim.
