NEWBURGH – City Councilwoman Ramona Monteverde of Newburgh is just getting over a several week bout with COVID-19 that hit her and her partner.

Monteverde, who has asthma, was concerned that the virus would impact her breathing, but that wasn’t the worst part of it.

“The aches and pains are what, I think, was the worst thing and just the fatigue; I could not get out of bed for at least a week. No appetite. It was pretty awful. I felt that I was in a deep, dark place. I was very afraid and concerned for my partner, who got more ill than I did. She had the fever; I did not have the fever,” Monteverde said.

She is not the only public official in the area to catch the virus. State Senator James Skoufis is recuperating from it at his home.
