HAVERSTRAW – Local and state elected officials representing Rockland County have been lobbying the state to create a COVID-19 testing location in Haverstraw.

Their efforts paid off with Albany approving a site in the Village of Haverstraw.

When Hudson River Health Care enacted a regionalized plan to deal with the pandemic, in person doctors’ visits as well as the only testing location in Haverstraw, were both transferred to the Village of Spring Valley.

That left the Town and Village of Haverstraw with virtually no public or private testing opportunities.

Haverstraw Zip Codes have some of the highest per capita infection rates in the county and state. Haverstraw is also the home of a sizeable Latino and African American population and statistics have shown those communities have been hit extremely hard by the pandemic.

Testing will be conducted in the municipal parking lot next to the Village of Haverstraw Community Center on West Broad Street.

Testing begins Wednesday, April 29 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hours of operation after Wednesday, April 29 will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every weekday.

Tests will be secured by appointment only and must be made by calling the State Health Department of Health at the hotline number 888-364-3065.

Announcement of the testing site was made by Senator James Skoufis and Assemblyman Kenneth Zebrowski.
