HUDSON – Saying children and counselors cannot properly maintain social distancing during the COVID-19 pandemic, Columbia County officials will ask the state health department for the authority to issue an executive order closing the camps. The order would be renewed every five days until it is determined safe to open the camps.

If permission is not granted for the order, Board of Supervisors Chairman Matt Murell said the county health department would issue a strong recommendation for summer camps not to operate during the COVID-19 crisis.

The county decision followed consultation of the board of supervisors, the county health department and county attorney’s office.
