KINGSTON – As a means of bringing down the cost of county government, Ulster County is considering a voluntary separation program for eligible county employees.

The county legislature’s Ways and Means Committee debated the proposal Tuesday evening with more discussion coming.

Legislator Kenneth Ronk supports the plan but would prefer some alterations to it.“It is going to be important to use to save every dime,” he said. “I do have a concern that this resolution gives rather sweeping authority to the executive’s office and has very little oversight by the legislature.”

If adopted, positions vacated by county workers would be left unfilled as a way to save the county money.
