GOSHEN – Orange County District Attorney David Hoovler has spent some $750,000 in technology upgrades, originally intended for the state’s criminal justice reforms, but it has turned into a major benefit for his office since the coronavirus hit the region.

As a result of the new IT, Hoovler said his office is open virtually 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

“We spent a lot of time and money, thousands of hours I would say, putting it together, close to three-quarters of a million dollars in technology upgrades over the past year, all in preparation for discovery reform, but the unintended consequence is, it has made life during the COVID epidemic much easier. And now that we are moving to virtual courtrooms and virtual arraignments, we have every platform available,” he said.

The new technology was funded through a combination of grants, the county budget and some money came from forfeitures.
