KINGSTON – The first drive-through testing center for COVID-19 opened on Monday at Tech City and a second facility is slated to be opened at the end of the month in Ellenville.

County Executive Patrick Ryan said Ulster, as with other area counties, needs hospital beds and masks and other supplies for doctors and nurses.

Ryan said the technology at one area college is helping out.

“SUNY New Paltz, which has an advanced manufacturing 3-D printing capability; they are starting to work on prototypes for plastic face shields and we have been coordinating with them on that,” he said.

Ryan noted the speed at which the virus is spreading. He said the first case in Ulster County was discovered on March 8 and in just two weeks it has jumped up to 38 confirmed cases.
