Man indicted in death of jail inmate

VALHALLA – A Yonkers man, at the time an inmate in the Westchester County Jail, was indicted in the death of another inmate.

Prosecutors alleged that on January 30, while inside the county jail, William Johnson, 21, punched another inmate, Bryce Neville, in the side of the head. Neville fell to the floor and suffered a serious injury. He was taken to Westchester Medical Center where he died on February 3.

The county medical examiner found the cause of death to be blunt force injury to the head, a skull fracture, and subarachnoid hemorrhage.

The attack was investigated by the Westchester District Attorney’s Office in collaboration with the county Department of Public Safety, and Department of Correction.
