POUGHKEEPSIE – The City of Poughkeepsie has created a new parking permit for when residents have visitors staying with them for a short time or have contractors and others working at their house.

The Residential Visitor Parking Permits come in a book holding six coupons. Each book will cost $50. Each coupon is good for two days of parking. The permits are available for purchase at the city’s parking department – second floor of City Hall. The permits are available to all residents in a residential permit parking district.

Second Ward Councilman Evan Menist suggested the idea to the city administration.

“I’m happy to have championed this new program on behalf of residents in the second ward who have for years been struggling with a lack of options for their guests to park,” Menist said. “Residents have had work vehicles ticketed while contractors have been repairing homes, and family members ticketed while visiting for the holidays. This new program allows residents the ability to purchase single-use passes that provide access for those one-off occasions where they need a visitor to be able to park their vehicle nearby to their home.”
