The two-alarm blaze at the Calvary Presbyterian Church at 120 South Street brought out firefighters from Orange and Dutchess counties to battle the flames in the rear of the rectory. That 150 foot by 75 foot structure is connected to the main church building.

Mutual aid fire departments included West Point, City of Beacon, Stewart Air National
Guard, Cronomer Valley, and Middle Hope with New Windsor on standby at the public safety building.

Central Hudson was also called to the scene and Newburgh Police blocked off the street while firefighting operations were underway.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
