NEWBURGH – A 28-year-old man, who allegedly stole a candy bar from a gas station on Broadway in the City of Newburgh, was killed early Wednesday by an 18-wheel tractor-trailer truck on Robinson Avenue.

The clerk at the Mobil gas station at 310 Broadway at the corner of Robinson Avenue asked that Kyrell Saunders, 28, be removed from the store.

Saunders left and began walking easterly toward Robinson Avenue, put his hands out in a stopping motion to slow down the truck attempting to travel northbound. He crossed in front of the vehicle, tried to jump on its passenger side, but was seen falling underneath the trailer portion of the vehicle.

The medical examiner’s office was called to the scene where Saunders was pronounced dead.
