BEACON – Clarkson University’s Beacon Institute for Rivers and Estuaries at Dennings Point in the City of Beacon is going to add the Beatrice G. Donofrio Environmental Education Complex thanks to the generosity of the Donofrio family. Mrs. Donofrio was a leader in the Beacon community right up to her death at age 98 in 2018.

Clarkson spokeswoman Melissa Lindell said the new facility will add to the opportunities of the institute. “It is going to be a world-class education and research facility to empower academic innovation, research and enhanced partnerships for all stages of the K-12 experience,” she said.

The Beacon Institute was created almost 20 years ago by then-Governor George Pataki and later transferred to Clarkson University.

The new facility is expected to be completed by the end of the year, said Lindell.
