State of Florida man arrested for sex crimes against a child in Orange County

GOSHEN – The Orange County Child Abuse Unit has arrested a Newport Richey, Florida man on charges that he engaged in sexual contact with a child under the age of 13.

The investigation by State Police and Orange County Child Protective Services resulted in investigators traveling to Florida where they coordinated with Newport Richey Police to eventually locate 35-year-old Edwin Rodriguez. He was charged as a fugitive from justice until he was extradited back to New York on February 11.

While awaiting extradition, he was indicted by an Orange County grand jury on two counts of predatory sexual assault against a child, three counts of course of sexual conduct against a child, and two counts of rape.

Rodriguez was committed to the Orange County Jail pending arraignment.
