NEW PALTZ – The water crisis in New Paltz has resulted in SUNY New Paltz cancelled classes from 3:30 p.m. Tuesday through February 15 and all resident students are mandated to leave the campus by noon on Wednesday and plan to be away from campus at least until Sunday, February 16.

Students who are unable to leave the campus are advised to contact their resident director immediately. International students are encouraged to reach out to the Center for International Programs for support.

The college actions come as the Village and Town of New Paltz attempted to find out what caused their municipal water supply to smell and taste funny.

Ulster County and state health department officials are working to identify what caused the issue and how to remediate it and safe water has been trucked in for residents to consume.

For those college students who must remain on campus, the school will continue to provide safe drinking water and limited food services at Peregrine Dining Hall, which will accept any food plan through Sunday, February 16.

The campus shutdown affects only the cancellation of classes and offices and employees are expected to work.

Campus events and activities will be held at the discretion of the organizers.
