NEW PALTZ – The ban on drinking municipal water in New Paltz continues as local, Ulster County and state officials believe they have isolated the likely cause of the sheen observed on Reservoir #4 to a compromised underground fuel line for the village’s water treatment plant heating system.

State Department of Environmental Conservation Spill Response experts are overseeing development and implementation of a cleanup plan to address the spill.

The village has bypassed this reservoir while investigations of the drinking water supply continue and sampling results are analyzed.

Free potable water will continue to remain available until further notice at village hall and at the Meadowbrook, Huguenot Park, and town and county apartment complexes.

Governor Cuomo also deployed over 40,000 gallons of fresh water to support residents and students in New Paltz until the municipal water issue is resolved.
