GREENBURGH – A Town of Greenburgh man and his wife have been at sea for the last 11 days after having docked at Hong Kong and now not being allowed to stop anywhere else because of the fear of the Coronavirus. They took the cruise to celebrate his 80th birthday.

Glenn Eisen told Town Supervisor Paul Feiner by email that no one on his Holland American cruise ship has the virus, but the concern about it has caused area countries to refuse to let it dock. “He took a cruise from Hong Kong and every port that they go to the ships aren’t letting them get off because they left form Hong Kong so he has been on a boat, the Holland American Line, since February 1st and they haven’t been able to get off the ship,” Feiner said.

The supervisor also said the town has a large Chinese population and some are worried about discrimination against that community because of the virus. “We must not tolerate any racial discrimination,” he said. If anyone is victimized, Feiner wants to know about it so he can forward complaints to the Human Rights Committee and other authorities.

As far as he knows, no Greenburgh resident who is a member of the Chinese community has experienced any direct discrimination because of the virus.
