LIBERTY – An Eldred man, who was wanted in connection with a burglary at his employer’s business on Christmas Day and was arrested in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, has been returned to Sullivan County.

Gary Klopchin, 54, was arrested by New York State Police on January 8, 2020, and charged with felony grand larceny.

It is alleged he entered the business where he was employed and stole over $18,000 in cash from the safe.

On December 26, investigators learned Klopchin was staying in a room at a casino in Wilkes-Barre. With the assistance from Pennsylvania State Police and Plains Township Police, he was detained until New York troopers arrived.

At that point, he was arrested as a fugitive from justice and remanded to the Luzern County Prison, in Wilkes-Barre.

Once returned to Monticello, he was arraigned and released on his own recognizance.
