POUGHKEEPSIE – Nuvance Health has named Joseph Mullany as the new president of Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. He started on the job on Monday, January 6.

Most recently, Mullany was president and CEO at Bayfront Health Systems in St. Petersburg, Florida, where he transformed a collection of seven independent hospitals into an integrated health system.

Prior to that, he was president and CEO of Detroit Medical Center, a 2,100-bed academic health system with eight hospitals, five surgery centers and some 14,000 employees.

“This is an exciting time to join the Hudson Valley community and to begin work with the talented Vassar Brothers Medical Center physicians, nurses and other staff to further enhance the high quality of care and services offered,” said Mullany.

The new patient pavilion is set to open later this year and Mullany said that facility “and collaborative new thinking and innovations will tie in perfectly with economic development and other initiatives.”

Kerry Eaton, chief operating officer as Vassar’s parent company, Nuvance Health, said Mullany has “a strong track record of enhancing operational performance in a wide variety of areas.”

Eaton has served over the last year as interim president of Vassar.
