GHENT – A 76-year-old East Greenbush man was killed Monday when the car he was driving ran off County Route 21B in the Town of Ghent, went off the shoulder of the road and struck a tree head-on. After the impact, the car went down an embankment where it came to rest.
The Columbia County Sheriff’s Office identified the victim as Rodney Abele, who was the sole occupant in the 2013 Toyota Sienna.
The 10:14 a.m. accident remains under investigation by sheriff’s deputies and investigators along with the coroner. Chatham Rescue Squad, Ghent Fire Department and Chatham Fire Department assisted at the scene.
