Accident shuts down Route 55 in Beekman

The accident sent several people to the hospital and shut down Route 55.

BEEKMAN – Beekman firefighters were dispatched to a two-car accident on Route 55 around 8:30 Friday morning.  Responding personnel were advised that multiple passengers were trapped in the vehicles.

The accident involved a Honda Pilot and a van.  The van came to a stop on the top of the guard rail.  The Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office reported that Route 55 in the vicinity of Garner Hollow Road was closed to allow the rescuers to work.

The Union Vale Fire Department was summoned to the scene and the Pawling Fire Department with their rescue rig to assist in extricating the multiple victims.  Several ambulances were at the scene and a landing zone for the Life-Net helicopter was set up at Town Center Park.  At least one victim was airlifted with the others being transported via ambulance.
