HIGHLAND FALLS – Warren Barootjian of Highland Falls, composer of the song “Purple Hearted Heroes,” died on October 29 at age 72.
The Vietnam War era Navy veteran was an accomplished songwriter, pianist and wood craftsman.
Barootjian, whose professional name in the music world was Warren Michaels, also composed “Lady by the Sea,” an anthem to the Statue of Liberty.
Barootjian was laid to rest in the Orange County Veterans’ Cemetery in Goshen on Saturday, November 9.
