WEST POINT – The search continues for a Class of 2021 U.S. Military Academy cadet who has been unaccounted for since Friday, Oct. 18, at approximately 5:30 p.m. when the cadet failed to report for a scheduled military skills competition.
An M4 rifle is also missing. The Cadet is not believed to have any magazines or ammunition.
There is no indication the Cadet poses a threat to the public, but he may be a danger to himself.
The 23rd Military Police company of approximately 130 Soldiers arrived today from Fort Drum, N.Y., to assist with ground search efforts.
Soldiers and support agencies have ground searched over 2,000 acres in the West Point cantonment area.
Military helicopters from 2nd Aviation detachment, New York State Police drones and New York State Police helicopters are conducting an aerial sweep using cameras and Forward-Looking Infrared Radar.
New York State Police dive teams have been using sonar to help search in the Hudson River along with lakes and ponds on West Point.
CSX railroad police have provided three working dogs in support of a search along railroad tracks and property adjacent to West Point.
West Point is operating under normal conditions with an increased force protection status.
