MONTICELLO – The New York City Council is considering banning the sale of foie gras – duck or goose liver – but that is giving heartburn to farmers in Sullivan County.

Sullivan is the home of Hudson Valley Foie Gras, big business for restaurants and consumers across the greater region.

County Legislator Alan Sorensen is opposed to the Big Apple’s proposal.

“I think the city council should be focusing on issues that have a meaningful impact on the residents of New York City and not focusing on mindless legislation that adversely impacts the quality of life here in Sullivan County,” he said.

Those opposed to the sale of foie gras do not like the force feeding of the fowl in order to fatten up their livers to serve them as a delicacy.
