Arrest made in fatal hit-and-run

State Police have released a photo of the hit-and-run vehicle that struck and killed a motorcyclist

TOWN OF HIGHLANDS – A Mount Kisco man has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run accident in the Town of Highlands that claimed the life of George Guy, 62, of Highland Falls.

State and Town of Highlands Police arrested Rene Morataya, 55, on Wednesday and charged him with the felony of leaving the scene of an incident that resulted in death.

Morataya was arrested in the area of Crompond Road in Cortlandt, arraigned in Monroe Town Court and remanded to the Orange County Jail in lieu of $20,000 cash bail.

Police said the incident occurred around 8:21 p.m. on October 1 as Morataya, who was driving a 1998 Toyota 4Runner SUV was making an illegal U-turn on Route 9W in the Town of Highlands and Guy, who was operating a motorcycle, was unable to avoid striking it.

Guy was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

A retired West Point firefighter, Guy was a volunteer with the Highland Falls Fire Department.

State and Town of Highlands Police were assisted in the investigation by West Point Military Police, Westchester County Police Department, and Peekskill City Police.

The investigation into the incident is continuing and anyone with information is asked to call the State Police at 845-344-5300.
