TOWN OF CORTLAND – A massive police search in Northern Westchester went well past midnight Sunday morning as a State Police helicopter combed the shoreline around the Bear Mountain Bridge Saturday night. A medical examiner was called in for a report of a body found in a van parked at an overlook two miles west of Route 9.

On Saturday, Poughkeepsie Town Police issued an all-points bulletin for a man identified as George Grogan, 59, and his estranged wife, Audrey Grogan, 52. Police had received information that he may have caused harm to his wife. He had been driving a 2010 black Dodge Caravan.

It was unclear if the search near Bear Mountain was related to that case.

Late Saturday night, the helicopter could be seen shining a spotlight on the Westchester shoreline and the Hudson River below.

Meanwhile, police from both Westchester and Putnam Counties closed off Bear Mountain Bridge Road, commonly referred to as “the Goat Trail,” all the way down to Route 9 and the Annsville Circle in Peekskill.

Bear Mountain Bridge itself remained open.

Drivers coming off the Bear Mountain Bridge were detoured up into Putnam County.
