MONTGOMERY – The Goodyear Blimp, which hovered high above the New York Jets – Cleveland Browns game Monday night, spent its pre and post-game time tethered at Orange County Airport in Montgomery.

The blimp, actually a semi-rigid Zeppelin NT (new technology), flew to the airport on Sunday where it stayed until Monday evening when it flew to Met Life Stadium for the game which the Jets lost, 23-3.

The 245-foot aircraft, almost as long as a football field, parks at Orange County Airport whenever it appears in the region, said airport Manager Ed Magryta.

“Goodyear, several years ago, was evaluating airports in the northeast for staging for their airships when they are doing events in the region and they identified Orange County as one of the fields that they preferred because of its location and its size where the ship has a lot of room to maneuver and stage,” he said.

It was back after the game and was to depart for Massachusetts Tuesday morning.

Magryta said the zeppelin pays standard rates for “parking” at the Montgomery airfield and to purchase fuel.
