People and pets rescued from big fire in Spring Valley

SPRING VALLEY – Fire at an apartment building at 131 Heitman Drive in Spring Valley Saturday evening caused heavy fire damage to one apartment while others sustained significant water damage, according to officials of the Columbian Engine Company.

The fire was called in around 8:30 p.m. with mutual aid from Spring Valley and South Spring Valley fire departments.

Despite heaving fire conditions and extreme heat, the fire was placed under control within about an hour.

Residents were left without power.

There were no injuries reported and several pet cats were rescued and reunited with their families.

Also assisting at the scene were Hillcrest, Monsey, Nanuet, New City, Pearl River, Suffern, Tallman, West Nyack and South Spring Valley fire departments and Spring Valley Police.
