Mangus will conclude her seven-year tenure on August 31. In a statement, she said, “I see the great things that can come from goal-setting, awareness, collaboration, communication, integrity, responsibility and tenacity.” She said that “the community has shown everyone what is made of through increased graduation and proficiency rates, continuously expanded programming and innovative opportunities.”

Silver, with 44 years in education, the last 22 as a superintendent in New York and Connecticut, will serve effective August 17 through 31. Beginning September 1, his title will change to interim superintendent of schools through February 28, 2020. He will receive $800 per day worked.

School Board President Lori Orestano-James said the board is “confident that his background, particularly his extensive experience in managing capital improvement projects, will help guide our district toward its goals.”

She said the board “remains committed to its goals of transparency and open communications during this time of transition.”
