Two days of storms blow down trees, knock out power; more storms likely later today

HUDSON VALLEY – Violent storms rolled through parts of Sullivan County Tuesday evening knocking down trees and bringing town power lines.

Fire departments and public works crews were out clearing trees from roadways.

New York State Electric and Gas reported that at 5:00 this morning, 93 customers were without power. The Town of Freemont had the most remaining customer outages at 83 with the Town of Delaware with five, Callicoon with four and Highland with one.

By 3 a.m. Wednesday, just four customers in the Town of Delaware were without power.

NYSEG serves 46,041 customers in Sullivan County.

On Monday, a violent rain and wind storm rolled through northern Dutchess County and central Ulster County afternoon with pockets of damage caused by the strong winds that toppled trees and limbs.

Portions of Hyde Park were among the hardest hit areas.

The storm caused service interruptions to about 8,800 customers, primarily in Dutchess and Ulster counties, Central Hudson Gas and Electric restored power during the day on Tuesday.

A third round of strong thunderstorms is likely this afternoon and evening.
