Traffic, revenue up on Mid-Hudson bridges

HIGHLAND – The Bear Mountain Bridge saw the greatest percentage increase in traffic and revenue of all five Hudson River crossings operated by the New York State Bridge Authority in the first six months of the year, according to the agency’s latest statistics.

Traffic rose by 2.11 percent while revenue increased by 2.00 percent.

The Mid-Hudson Bridge, connecting Highland and Poughkeepsie, saw a 1.74 percent increase in traffic and a 1.39 percent increase in revenue.

The Kingston-Rhinecliff Bridge saw traffic grow by 0.95 percent while revenue increased by 0.67 percent.

The Rip Van Winkle Bridge saw an increase of 0.24 percent in traffic and a 0.32 percent rise in revenue.

The Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, which carries the most traffic, double that of its closest challenger – the Mid-Hudson – continued to carry the most vehicles. Traffic on the Newburgh-Beacon increased by 0.90 percent while revenue rose by 0.06 percent.

In the period of January to June, a total of 30.9 million vehicles traveled across all five bridges while revenues totaled $28.1 million.
