Hikers rescued from Shawangunk Ridge State Forest

MAMAKATING – Two hikers, lost in the Shawangunk Ridge State Forest Monday evening were rescued by area first responders some two hours later.

The two, believed to be a mother and her young son, ended up in a remote area off a trail in the forest and reached out for help by phone around 7:50 p.m.

Summitville and Wurtsboro fire department personnel and other volunteers scoured the area in all-terrain vehicles until they were located around 10 p.m.

They were administered first aid by the Mamakating First Aid Squad when they were brought out of the woods.

No injuries were reported and it appears they suffered only from minor dehydration.
