Lyndell Humphrey, 31, pled guilty on Tuesday to criminal possession of a weapon and admitting to possessing a loaded an unregistered .22 caliber handgun on Hamilton Avenue in Monticello on September 18, 2018.

Sullivan County District Attorney James Farrell credited the Monticello Police Department’s handling of the case. He said a patrol officer was in the process of interviewing Humphrey when he fled discarding his backpack. Inside, officers found the gun and a small amount of heroin.

“The sharp observations of the patrol officer in this case resulted in the seizure of this loaded, stolen and illegal handgun and the arrest, prosecution and conviction of Humphrey who had no business possessing this gun,” Farrell said.

Humphrey was sentenced as a second felony offender, having a 2008 narcotics conviction in Rockland County.
