NEWBURGH – It took firefighters 2 ½ hours to bring an auto
repair shop fire under control Friday morning. The structure at 842 Broadway
was a total loss, said Fire Chief Terry Ahlers.

The blaze was called in at 11:32 p.m. Thursday with heavy smoke pouring
out the front of the 60-foot by 65-foot structure. It wasn’t declared
under control until 2:27 a.m.

The three-alarm fire resulted in all off-duty Newburgh firefighters being
called back in along with firefighters from West Point, Stewart Air Guard,
and Vails Gate.

Ahlers said the fire is under investigation by Newburgh fire investigators,
but it is not considered incendiary.

There were no injuries to civilians or firefighters.
