Regional unemployment continues to decline

ALBANY – The rates of
unemployment in the Hudson Valley/Catskills declined in the 12 months
ended in November, the state labor department reported on Thursday. (Click
here for all rates of joblessness around the state.)

The lowest rate was in Columbia County, at 2.6 percent. That was followed
by 2.9 percent in Dutchess, 3.0 percent in Putnam County, 4.0 percent
in Ulster and Rockland counties, 5.0 percent in Orange and Westchester,
3.3 percent in Sullivan County and 3.7 percent in Greene County.

The November unemployment rate in the Hudson Valley region was 3.1 percent,
down from 3.3 percent in October and down from 4.5 percent in November
2017. There were 36,200 unemployed in the region, down from 37,900 in
October and down from 50,300 in November 2017.

Year-over-year in the region in November, the labor force increased by
24,800 or 2.2 percent to 1,154,300.
