Liberty man arrested for attempted armed robbery

MONTICELLO – A Liberty man was arrested by Monticello Village Police on Saturday following an investigation into an attempted armed robbery that occurred on Thursday, December 20 in front of the Eagle Plaza on Forestburg Road in Monticello.
Unique Junior and another man attempted to rob another man of his cell phone after the victim had arranged a meeting through the app “Letgo,” in order to sell the phone.
 During the arranged meeting, Junior pulled what appeared to be a firearm and attempted to rob the victim of his phone.
Junior was arrested Saturday afternoon as he was walking on Pine Street in Monticello. He was recognized by Police Officer John Calvello, Jr. from surveillance video of the crime. He was sent to the Sullivan County Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
An investigation is ongoing for the second suspect involved.
State Police and Sullivan County Sheriff’s deputies assisted in the arrest of Junior.
