TOWN OF THOMPSON – It pays off to be the host town of a casino and other new touristy and visitor-related businesses.
The Town of Thompson is home to Resorts World Catskills and other new facilities, and Town Supervisor William Rieber, Jr. said the just-adopted 2019 budget of $19.5 million is projected to have a 9.1 percent tax decrease, the fourth tax decrease in as many years.
“We very conservatively budgeted revenues with directly as a result of the gaming industry,” Rieber said. “We do expect to have more revenues than we budgeted, but we are being conservative and this budget takes into the somewhat tenuous operation until they season.”
The casino coupled with the upscale YO1 spa and the Kartrite Waterpark, under construction are affecting the county with their new investments, said Rieber. “Employment is at an all-time high, sales tax revenues are on the rise and new businesses are opening,” he said.
During the last four years, the supervisor said property taxes have dropped by 16 percent.
