MID-HUDSON – This will be the busiest week of the year for the US Postal Service. With Internet holiday purchases continuing to grow, postal service spokesman George Flood said this year will break records.
“This year during the holiday season we are anticipating handling about 900 million packages,” he said. “To put that in perspective, last holiday season we handled 871 million packages so the package growth is certainly significant.”
Because of that growth, the postal service has expanded to Sunday deliveries during the holidays to keep up with the volume.
