WASHINGTON – Pirate radio station “La Mojada FM” in Croton-on-Hudson has been taken off the air by the FCC and Westchester County District Attorney’s Office.
Richard Dominguez, the operator of the illegal radio station, which broadcast on 98.5 FM, was charged with unauthorized radio transmission and had his radio equipment seized.
“Pirate radio operations interfere with licensed broadcasting – including public safety measures,” said Rosemary Harold, chief of the FCC’s Enforcement Bureau. “It is vital that we combat this problem aggressively, and partnerships like this make that possible.”
Federal law prohibits the operation of a broadcast radio or TV station without a license issued by the FCC. Congress enacted that requirement nearly a century ago as a means of managing interference to ensure functioning communications.
