Police release name of man killed in bridge crash

NEWBURGH – The driver killed when his vehicle slammed into the rear of a tractor-trailer on the eastbound Newburgh-Beacon Bridge last Thursday evening was identified as a Hopewell Junction man.
State Police said Fernando Carozza, 51, was killed when his Jeep struck the rear of the truck, which was stopped in the center lane of the bridge when it became disabled.
Other drivers maneuvered around the disabled truck, but Carozza’s vehicle struck the rear bumper of the trailer at about 7 p.m.  Carozza died at the scene.
The State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Unit and Bureau of Criminal investigation responded to the scene.
The investigation is continuing.
