POUGHKEEPSIE – Dutchess County Family Court Judge Tracy MacKenzie has been named Acting Supreme Court Justice for Dutchess County beginning in January.
The appointment was made by the Honorable Lawrence Marks, New York’s Chief Administrative Judge.
Dutchess County is losing three veteran judges due to retirement.  Supreme Court Judge and Associate Justice of the Appellate Term, Hon. James Brands, Surrogate and Acting Supreme Court Judge Hon. James Pagones and the Honorable Joan Posner, Family Court Judge and Acting Supreme Court Judge, are all leaving the bench at the end of the year, leaving a shortage of judges available to handle Supreme Court matters.
MacKenzie, a 2003 graduate of Quinnipiac School of Law was elected in November 2015 to a 10-year term as Dutchess County Family Court Judge.
The former Principal Court Attorney for Family Court Judge Denise Watson took the bench in January 2016 and has been handling upwards of 500 various family court cases per year.
MacKenzie is a lifelong resident of Dutchess County and of her appointment said “I am honored to serve as Acting Supreme Court Judge in Dutchess County.  I will do my best to continue the fine work of the Dutchess County Judiciary.”
